In our journey at Murî, we are not just coffee enthusiasts but two Kurdish doctoral students, one in Sociology and the other in Communication, at UCSD. Amidst our academic pursuits and teaching responsibilities, we felt a deep longing to connect more profoundly with our community, a desire to share our history and culture within the vibrant and diverse fabric of San Diego.
Navigating the world of academia while nurturing this dream wasn't easy. Yet, as adept multitaskers accustomed to managing life's challenges, we embarked on a profound journey. Our path led us through extensive research, a transformative trip to Kurdistan, conversations with locals, visits to historical sites, and a deepening understanding of the cultural roots shaping the Kurdish community in Northern Kurdistan.
The genesis of Murî emerged from this rich tapestry of experiences. We envisioned a practical application of our sociological and communicative insights—a space that transcends abstraction, where people can come together, converse, and connect without the confines of intellectualism. Murî became not just a coffee shop but a nexus for community, a place where simplicity meets profound discussions.
The joy of gathering people in the warm embrace of Murî is ineffable. It's more than a business; it's an embodiment of our yearning to witness the transformative power of community, the beauty of collective living, and the essence of our way of life. Welcome to Murî, where every cup tells a story, and every conversation builds bridges. Murî means bead in English, symbolizing beauty, colorfulness, and meaning when they come together.
